Don’t forget about
the Abilene Roundup Pass:
Good for entry at the six most popular area
attractions including the Buffalo Gap Historic Village.

  • Due to the historic nature of our organization, some of our buildings have narrow doorways and one has steep stairs. Many have access ramps, but some doorways are inaccessible by wheelchair. Our walkways are fairly level but we recommend being prepared to navigate a few tricky paths from the past, and possibly some mud puddles in rainy weather.

We do offer accessible parking spaces and restrooms.

  • Other than bottled water, we do not have food or beverages for sale. You are welcome to bring a picnic with you and enjoy one of numerous outdoor picnic tables. We have a limited gift shop and plenty of free parking.

  • In addition to special prices for military, first responders, educators, seniors, and area residents, the Historic Village offers free admission during the Scarecrow Festival each fall, and participates in the Abilene Roundup Pass which includes admission to the six most popular attractions at a reduced cost. And any membership level allows unlimited visits throughout the membership year.

  • We are closed on federal holidays and may have extended closings around Thanksgiving and Christmas. Please see our Facebook page for the latest information.

  • Annual memberships are available for the Village, and some levels include NARM benefits – reciprocal benefits to more than 1,500 other museums, zoos, and gardens across North America. Ask at the Admission Office / Gift Shop and see more details here.

  • Buffalo Gap Historic Village offers the Historical Reddell House, just across the street, for overnight visitors. The 4-bedroom, 2-bath home is fully accessible downstairs (with one bed and one bath); the other three bedrooms and bath are upstairs. See more details or book on Airbnb here.

  • We offer plenty of free parking on two sides of the Village. Additional street parking is allowed nearby, if needed.

  • We love dogs! We ask that you keep your four-legged friend on a leash at all times and pick up any waste they may leave. We do not have an enclosed dog park, nor do we offer “doggie-doo” bags. Please bring your own.

  • You are welcome to take photographs throughout the Village for personal or social media use. Please be respectful about intruding on the space or images of other visitors. No selfie-sticks, please. Feel free to tag us on Instagram or Facebook.

Professional photographers or special-event photography (such as engagement photos, family reunions, etc.) need to preregister and pay a fee. Please check out the details here. (will link to appropriate page)

  • Plenty of outdoor picnic tables are available for you to use. Feel free to bring your own picnic, but please do not eat or drink inside any of our historic buildings.

  • The Historic Village offers a fall festival featuring scarecrows handmade by area students; a holiday tea in December; a seated dinner fundraiser in the spring; and often hosts special events planned by other organizations. Check our Facebook page for events near the time of your visit.

Also keep in mind that you may rent our open field, chapel, art gallery, or historical home for your own events, or bring in a professional photographer for special keepsake memories. Check here for details.

  • All visits to the Village are self-guided. You may purchase a map in the Admissions Office with extra details about each facility and a suggested route to see all the buildings. Signage at each stop provides more information. Most people complete their tour in about an hour but you are welcome to stay as long as you like.

  • The Village may be closed due to inclement weather, or open late or close early as a result. Please check our Facebook page for last-minute updates. Please also note that not all the historic buildings are heated or air-conditioned.

  • The Buffalo Gap chapel is available to rent for weddings (or funerals). It can seat up to 75 guests. Check out the details here – along with information about the Reddell House which may be rented for overnight accommodations.
